Well, we have already had the log fires lit a few times, game is on the menu and the Christmas bookings are filling up. We were also very proud this month to hear that we will be included in the Michelin Guide 2018. It has been a wonderful year for accolades. We held another Progressive Supper with the Table and The Ufford Crown and I think it was our best one so far. On Thursday and Friday evenings we now put out delicious homemade snacks from the kitchen like pork crackling, spicy nuts and chicken wings.

International Champagne Day – On Friday 20th October from 6pm we will be celebrating all things fizzy in the bar. We will be serving prosecco for £4 per glass or £20 per bottle, Champagne for £6 a glass or £32 a bottle. We will also be serving caviar blinis alongside the other Friday evening snacks we put out.

Gift Vouchers – We do have very smart gift vouchers available at the bar. You can buy them for a specific amount of money or for a particular event like a Sunday roast, one of our Supper Clubs (£45 per head) or Supper and Quiz Night (£18 per head) or a Cookery Demonstration & Lunch (£25 each) . We have four Supper clubs a year, six quiz nights and two cookery demos planned, so the lucky holder of a voucher can chose a date that suits them.

Supper & Quiz Night – Our last quiz of the year is on Wednesday 25th October at 7pm. It is a hugely popular event with our fabulous quiz master Tony Rubin. There is an antipasti sharing platter to start and a delicious main course of Blythburgh pork sausages, borlotti bean ragout and lots of crackling or smashed pumpkin cannelloni, veggie Parmesan and rocket salad (V), plus lots of our delicious chips. We have only a couple of tables left and we are looking for teams of 4 – 6 people. £18 per person. First prize a £50 voucher, second prize a £25 voucher.

Cooker Demonstrations and Lunch – After the success of Chef Mauli’s cookery demonstrations at The Suffolk Show and The Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival and repeated requests we have decided to host two events. On January 16th we will host an Indian cookery demonstration featuring a meat and a vegetarian thali with all the accompanying side dishes and breads. On the 20th February Chef Mauli will demonstrate spicy vegetarian cookery, picking exciting dishes from around the world. The event will start at 11am with tea, coffee and homemade cake and cookies. The demonstration will last about an hour then there will be a delicious lunch featuring the dishes Mauli has presented and a glass of wine. The cost if £25 per head.

Christmas 2017 – We have launched our Christmas menus and leaflets are available at the pub and the menus are on our website. Christmas Eve is a Sunday this year so we will have our roast, and lighter options, available at 12pm and 2.30pm. We will then serve an a la carte supper menu from 6pm till 9pm and we will have live jazz in the evening. On Christmas Day we are open from 12pm till 3pm just for drinks I’m afraid. Last year was enormous fun, with most of the village making an appearance ahead of their Christmas lunch.

New Year Eve – Now you all know we can through one hell of a party! On NYE we will once again have a delicious curry buffet, bacon rolls at midnight and dancing to fabulous The Alibi Club. This is a ticket only event and they are selling fast. 7pm – 1am, £45 per head

We had a fabulous sunny day for our Gin Festival. It was busier than we had expected with people turning up well prepared with deck chairs and picnic blankets. In the end we got through 40 bottles of gin in just one day. Dave Freeland did a fabulous job on the decks and helped create a wonderful atmosphere. We got through 125 kilos of potatoes, 24 Sutton Hoo chickens, 24 Gressingham ducks and 15 kilos of Tide Mill flour for our Indian street food BBQ.

July 2017We have had a very busy month. Peter has joined us as assistant front of house manager and is already a real asset to the team. The pub garden is in full bloom and busy with young, old and canine visitors. Mauli did a very successful cookery demo at The Suffolk Show and will be cooking both days at The Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival at Snape from 23rd to 24th September.

Well Christmas Day drinks at the pub were a great success. We were rather surprised by the huge turnout and the entire bar, snug and restaurant were full with visitors. There was a wonderful atmosphere. We all enjoyed the New Year’s Eve party and Mauli’s curry buffet hit the spot. We have already arranged next year’s event with The Alibi Club playing.

Well we are just starting to get excited about our second Christmas at The Turk’s Head. Our first birthday party was enormous fun and we had a great crowd celebrating with us. This month we have been told that we will be included in next years Good Beer Guide and we are in the final three for the Top 50 Gastro Pubs – Best Newcomer. More cause for celebration!

This month we hosted our first ’10 Mile Meal’ , where all the ingredients were sourced within 10 miles. We worked with delicious produce from Gressingham Duck, Sutton Hoo Chicken, Virginia Nurseries, AW Mortier, FG Taylor & Sons, Hillfarm Oil, Tidemill flour and Shawsgate Vineyard. It was a beautiful evening, the restaurant was completely full and everyone seemed to have a great time. We will be hosting another one during the Aldeburgh Food And Drink Festival, on the 6th October. (more…)

The Turks Head has had another great month, with Chef Mauli making use of all the delicious local produce coming into season. Monkfish curry and banoffee pie were the runaway successes on our previous menu. We have just rolled out new lunch and supper menus but we insisted that Mauli kept the kedgeree and the banoffi pie.

The garden is looking wonderful with our new Paul Richardson seagull sculptures and our planting nearly finished. Visitors have been enjoying sitting outside in the sun and the children have been taking advantage of the garden Jenga and other games. (more…)

Well it has been an exhausting and fabulous month. The Highlight was our inaugural ‘Beer, Cider and Gin Festival’ . It was incredibly well attended and we got through 20 casks of ale, 5 of cider and 40 bottles of gin. Mauli and his team produced hugely popular spicy wraps, featuring Gressingham duck and Sutton Hoo chicken amongst other delicious ingredients. (more…)

Well it feels like we have been open or a lot longer than five months! We are extremely proud of all Mauli and his team have achieved in the kitchen, quickly gaining a reputation for the quality of their food. Our ever changing list of guest ales and extensive wine and spirit list keep our regulars in the bar happy. (more…)

Dear all, well we are two months in to the new life of The Turks Head. We have been so pleased with the reaction from our fabulous customers to the pub and our restaurant. Chef Mauli has created amazing frequently changing menus, we’ve developed a great wine list and the bar team have been selecting exciting, ever changing beers from our great local breweries.

December was a very busy month and we hosted lots of Christmas parties for families, friends and businesses, which was enormous fun. Buckshee played us into the New Year. We had a brilliant party and a riotous conga through the bar at midnight! (more…)
