It has been a truly fabulous month at The Turk’s Head. We were over the moon to win the Outstanding Customer Service Award at the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards. We are extremely proud of our front of house team and all their hard work. Our fourth Beer, Cider and Gin Festival was a great success, once again, despite the weather not being on our side! Tallulah Goodtimes DJ’d Friday night and The Biscuit Brothers raised the roof on Saturday. There were lots of new ales, ciders and gins to try and chef Mauli’s fabulous spicy Indian street food were a huge hit once again.
Fathers Day June 16th – We are now very well known for our Sunday roast using all the best local ingredients. Join us for Fathers Day and there will also be specials including ‘Beef Wellington’. The diary is filling up fast and this is always one of the busiest Sundays of the year.
Friday Nights– Our thali specials on Friday nights are proving a huge hit. Chose from meat, vegetarian or vegan. Please mention you want thali when you book as we only make a limited number.
Saturday Nights – To usher in the warmer weather, finders crossed, we are extending our serving times. On Saturdays we will take food orders from 5pm until 9.30pm
Organic Wine Tasting Supper – Join us on Friday 21st June for our next supper club. Wine expert Mark Soudah will guide you through a selection of delicious organic wines. Enjoy fizz on arrival and a five course supper with a different wine with each course. £60 per person
Indulgent Saturday Brunch – Brunch is now well established every Saturday from 10am until 2pm. There is a menu with exciting options from a fruit platter to pancakes or porridge, or more substantial dishes of a full English to kedgeree or huevos rancheros (our most popular dish). It includes veggie & vegan choices as well as a children’s’ menu too. Our a la carte lunch menu will be available from 12pm until 3pm as usual.
Meet Up Mondays – Would you like to meet some new people? Our Monday group is now very well established. Join us from 9am – 11am every Monday. There is tea, coffee, biscuits, bacon sandwiches and lots of chatter. We have young and old come along. Dogs and babies are welcome and its all free.
We have a beautiful new drive, some new paintwork and new poems in the loos. Our super fast broadband is in and we have introduced a new menu of seasonal delights. A quick reminder that we are not serving food on Mondays or Tuesdays for January and February. We will be closed on those days until 4pm, when we open for drinks. However we now have extraordinarily good sausage rolls available at the bar (the secret is the onion marmalade in them!)
Italian Cookery Demonstration and Lunch – Our head chef Mauli originally trained with Antonio Carluccio and for this demo he will share some of his knowledge and experience of Italian cookery. Enjoy tea, coffee and cake, a two hour cookery demonstration, a delicious lunch and a glass of wine. Starts 11am, £35 per person.
Gin Pairing Supper March 15th – Our last gin supper could have filled the entire restaurant twice over. Join us for a gin fizz cocktail on arrival and a five course supper with a different gin with each course. You will be guided through each tipple by our gin expert. 7pm start, £55 per person.
Cookery Demo with Emma Crowhurst May 15th – Local culinary legend Emma Crowhurst will thrill you with her knowledge and stories whilst demonstrating how to make delicious canapés for your guests. Emma has enjoyed a varied career, which has encompassed many years as a chef working at some of London’s most prestigious restaurants. Emma was Head Teacher at the famous Leith’s School of Food and Wine in Kensington before co-presenting BBC2’s Food and Drink Programme and appearing on Ready Steady Cook , Celebrity Chef , Weakest Link and The Generation Game. Enjoy tea, coffee and cake, a two hour cookery demonstration, a delicious lunch and a glass of wine. Starts 11am, £35 per person.
Supper and Quiz Night – Our next quiz will be on Thursday 7th March There will a delicious two course supper and a fun pub quiz of seven rounds. £18 per person, teams of four to six people. We are considering having an ‘open table’ for people who would like to join a team. Let us know if you are interested. First prize is a £50 voucher, second prize is a £25 voucher. Just a few spaces left.

Did You Know – At The Turks Head we support a different charity each year. This year we have chosen The Riding For The Disabled Woodbridge & District Group, who are based in Clopton. They teach riding and carriage driving to disabled children and adults regardless of what their disability might be and have been doing this for over 30 years. The benefits to all who ride or drive with there are huge. It provides them with valuable therapeutic exercise, an opportunity to develop their social skills and a chance to build relationships with the horses and ponies. They are completely self funding. Well the decorations will be coming down shortly and we will be closing for a few days to give the building some TLC. We are closed from Monday 7th, reopening on Friday 11th Jan 4pm. The walls are having a lick of paint and hopefully our drive is having a tidy up too (weather permitting). We are also having ‘super-fast’ broadband installed, so it will be even easier to work from home, from the comfort of the pub! With your support 2018 has been a fabulous year for us and we are very excited about what 2019 will bring. We wish you all a a wonderful year too.
Festive season at The Turks Head has started in earnest. The decorations are up and the fires are lit. The diary is filling up and as Boxing Day is almost full we have added another sitting at 7.30pm. On Monday we held a Christmas lunch for our Meet Up Mondays group and over thirty guests came and enjoyed a fabulous meal with lots of chatter and laughter
Well, we have already had the log fires lit a few times, game is on the menu and the Christmas bookings are filling up. We were also very proud this month to hear that we will be included in the Michelin Guide 2018. It has been a wonderful year for accolades. We held another Progressive Supper with the Table and The Ufford Crown and I think it was our best one so far. On Thursday and Friday evenings we now put out delicious homemade snacks from the kitchen like pork crackling, spicy nuts and chicken wings.
We had a fabulous sunny day for our Gin Festival. It was busier than we had expected with people turning up well prepared with deck chairs and picnic blankets. In the end we got through 40 bottles of gin in just one day. Dave Freeland did a fabulous job on the decks and helped create a wonderful atmosphere. We got through 125 kilos of potatoes, 24 Sutton Hoo chickens, 24 Gressingham ducks and 15 kilos of Tide Mill flour for our Indian street food BBQ.
July 2017 – We have had a very busy month. Peter has joined us as assistant front of house manager and is already a real asset to the team. The pub garden is in full bloom and busy with young, old and canine visitors. Mauli did a very successful cookery demo at The Suffolk Show and will be cooking both days at The Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival at Snape from 23rd to 24th September.
Well Christmas Day drinks at the pub were a great success. We were rather surprised by the huge turnout and the entire bar, snug and restaurant were full with visitors. There was a wonderful atmosphere. We all enjoyed the New Year’s Eve party and Mauli’s curry buffet hit the spot. We have already arranged next year’s event with The Alibi Club playing.
Well we are just starting to get excited about our second Christmas at The Turk’s Head. Our first birthday party was enormous fun and we had a great crowd celebrating with us. This month we have been told that we will be included in next years Good Beer Guide and we are in the final three for the Top 50 Gastro Pubs – Best Newcomer. More cause for celebration!
This month we hosted our first ’10 Mile Meal’ , where all the ingredients were sourced within 10 miles. We worked with delicious produce from Gressingham Duck, Sutton Hoo Chicken, Virginia Nurseries, AW Mortier, FG Taylor & Sons, Hillfarm Oil, Tidemill flour and Shawsgate Vineyard. It was a beautiful evening, the restaurant was completely full and everyone seemed to have a great time. We will be hosting another one during the Aldeburgh Food And Drink Festival, on the 6th October. (more…)
